Nepal & Mount Everest Base Camp

March 27th - April 10th 2018

As part of our filming trip to Nepal for The Weather Network, we took a helicopter flight to Mount Everest Base Camp. Normally, it takes about a week and a half to trek from the town of Lukla up to Base Camp, but we did it in about 30 minutes, without acclimatizing. This was intentional, as we wanted to document the effect of extreme altitude changes on the human body. There was a fair amount of drama involved in this endeavour. We had conflicting reports about whether or not we'd actually be able to land at Base Camp, and when we eventually did, we were only permitted about 5 minutes, due to the altitude.

It's like a small city that pops up every spring for climbing season.	Khumbu Glacier and Mount Everest Base CAmp.	I'm smiling, but the altitude is taking its toll. I was out of breath, and my fingertips were going numb.

Holding the flag of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society at Mount Everest Base Camp.	I had the great honour of meeting Kancha Sherpa, the last living member of the 1953 Mt. Everest expedition that saw sir Edmond Hillary and Tenzing Norgay to the summit. We gave him a lift from Kathmandu to Lukla on our helicopter.
