Andean Condors

Colca Canyon, Peru - Aug 01 2014
What a treat it was to see so many of these gigantic birds. The morning sun heats up the sides of Colca Canyon, creating updrafts or thermals. The condors glide along, riding these thermals as they survey the canyon floor below. They are considered to be the largest bird of prey with an enormous wingspan measuring 3 meters (9.8 feet) and weighing up to 15 kgs (33.1 lbs.).
