Giant Tortoises

Aldabra Atoll, Seychelles - Feb 2020
While on board the ship Le Bougaineville, shooting video for Zegrahm Expeditions, we sailed through the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean. A series of beautiful, remote coral atolls that very few people get to visit. As a matter of fact, Aldabra Atoll only sees about 1100 visitors per year, so it was a great privilege to set foot there on this trip. One of the interesting things about Aldabra is its population of giant tortoises. They are similar to the tortoises that are more famously found in the Galapagos (which I have photographed as well), but here there are around 100,000 of them. They are everywhere! What a treat to see them in the forest, on the beaches... All over. They were not shy at all, and I had a couple of them get really close to investigate my camera! We also visited with some of the researchers who are stationed on the island who study the tortoises and the other wildlife there. Aldabra is amazing! a real tropical paradise.
