Deception island is an active
volcano and also the site of a former Norwegian whaling station.
The whaling station was abandoned during the great depression
and several volcanic eruptions and landslides have taken their
toll on the remaining buildings. The last significant eruption
was in 1969 which destroyed 2 Chilean research stations.

These "water boats"
were used to bring fresh water out to the whale processing ships.
Rusted out boilers.
This building was gutting during
a landslide that plowed through it.
These buildings are slowly disintegrating
in the wind, rain & snow.
