EF-4 Damage - June 5th, 2010

Incredible damage and fatalities caused by tornado outbreak

  • On June 5th a very destructive, EF-4 tornado with wind speeds of 170-175 mph touched down and ripped through Wood & Ottawa counties in Ohio, including the town of Millbury. Numerous houses and other buildings were completely destroyed and there were 5 fatalities. The Lake District High School was destroyed and the school was scheduled to have its graduation the following day.

    This house was totally swept off its foundation. All that is left is a makeshift flagpole erected by the home owners.

    This is why you don't want to be in a car when a tornado strikes.

    Obviously, this car was NOT a safe place to hide.

    Cars can be lifted by a strong tornado like this one was and thrown hundreds of feet.

    Another house that has been completely demolished with nothing but the concrete foundation left.

    This house was severely damaged and will likely have to be torn down.

    An excellent example of how simple debris can become a deadly missile when propelled by the intense winds of a strong tornado.

    Here a piece of lumber has penetrated the roof of a house. This is why you want to put as many walls between you and the tornado.

    A dramatic photo. The house in the background was swept off its foundation and the debris made deep gouge marks in the lawn as it disintegrated and was blown away!

    Lake District High School took a direct hit from the tornado and had much of its roof peeled off.
