The Land of the Incas

Peru - Oct. 2016
It was a tremendous pleasure to return to Peru. This visit was part of an extended trip to South America that also included the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador. I was on the trip as a representative of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. We visited parts of historic Lima, and of course, many ancient Incan sites including Machu Picchu. This was my second time there, and it is just as stunning as the first time I saw it.

Machu Picchu shrouded in clouds. We did an early morning hike to the sun gate, along the Inca Trail. The clouds parted for us perfectly.

There were quite a few chinchillas hoping around the ancient city. They would occasionally stop and pose for our cameras.
Life finds a way. A flower, sprouting out from between the tiny cracks in the stonework at Machu Picchu.
