Zanzibar Island, Tanzania

Indian Ocean - Feb 2020
I was invited to shoot video for the marketing department of Zegrahm Expeditions and Zanzibar was the starting point for the journey aboard the ship Le Bougaineville. A few of us arrived a couple of days early so that we had planty of opportunity to check out the island. This was my first time to Tanzania, and while I would have loved to have visited the mainland as well, Zanzibar was amazing! the narrow, confusing streets of Stone Town were a great place to wander. Historically, Zanzibar was best known for its spices, as well as for being an important point along the Arabian slave trade routes.

Weathered buildings in Stone Town.

Did I mention that it was hot? Sometimes, ya just gotta lie back are do nothing.

Along the waterfront in Stone Town where canons that used to defend the island now sit idle. Of course I brought with me my Royal Canadian Geographical Society flag

Gorgeous blue water. This was the view from my hotel room. Not too bad eh?

I'm not sure how long this old car has been sitting here, but I suspect it has been a LONG time.

Stone Town, Zanzibar

One of the narrow streets in Stone Town. The area is a total maze and is an excellent place to just wander and get lost.

At the fish market.

One of the places we checked out was the Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park.

At one point I had a monkey pee on my telephoto lens. I think that was a first for me!
