Grand Opening of the Centre For Geography & Exploration

Ottawa - May 13 2019
I was fortunate to be able to attend the official opening of the Canadian Centre for Geography and Exploration in Ottawa. The building is home to both the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and Canadian Geographic magazine. This historic occasion was attended by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek, and a host of other VIP's. Learn more about the grand opening here.

I got to meet the Prime Minister. I mentioned to him that I chased storms, and he warned me about Americans in the Midwest, firing guns at tornadoes. This was a reference to a recent news report advising people not to do that!
In the Alex Trebek Theatre downstairs at 50 Sussex. We welcomed a new Explorer In Residence into our ranks. L-R: Adam Shoalts, Myself, Jill Heinerth and new EIR, Johnny Issaluk.

I got a behind the scenes look at where Canadian Geographic magazine is made. Behind me is the layout for an upcoming issue.
I signed the guest book in the Christopher Ondaatje Reading Room on the same page as Prime Minister Trudeau, Alex Trebek and legendary ocean explorer Joe Macinnis.
